FOFA — in collaboration with MEAPO (Museo Estatal de Arte Popular Oaxaca) — is gearing up for its Second Young Artists Competition on August 9, 2011. Artists from 14-28 years of age are invited to submit one work of art in any of the following five categories:
- Ceramics
- Woodcarving
- Decorative Painting of a Wood-Carved Figure
- Textiles
- Other (papier mâché, tinwork, dried corn husk figures, jewelry, candles & more)
An international panel of jurors will select six winners:
- One among 17-28 year olds in each of the above five categories
- A sixth, the most promising artist in the 14-16-year-old age range
Winners will be awarded a three-month scholarship to art classes at the outstanding art school, Taller de Artes Plásticos Rufino Tamayo in Oaxaca City.
The six winners, as well as those who receive honorable mention, will:
- Have their pieces on exhibition at MEAPO, opening on October 28, 2011 and on view until January 28, 2012.
- Have a FOFA mentor
- Be offered English classes geared to promoting their work and other capacity building activities
