Sponsorship of Tianguis (Folk Art Fairs) (2008- Present)

2008-2011

In conjunction with the inauguration of “Oaxacan Popular Artists in the New Millennium” – the exhibition that celebrated the art of winners and honorable mention recipients in FOFA’s First Young Artists Juried Competition – FOFA sponsored a tianguis in MEAPO’s courtyard in which contest honorees and other local artist families participated.

Due to its success, two additional tianguis followed on January 24 and February 21, 2009, also at MEAPO. These provided perfect opportunities to meet the talented artesanos featured in the exhibition – along with many other inspired creators of Oaxaca — and to purchase one-of-a-kind collectible folk art.

Carlomagno Pedro Martínez, Director of MEAPO, impressed with the value of these tianguis, initiated an annual tianguis for artesanos in his pueblo of San Bartolo Coyotepec during Semana Santa (Easter week). The first took place in 2009, the second in 2010 and the third in 2011. FOFA contributed to the promotional materials designed to bring attention to these events.
