2008 Catalogue Fundraiser

TOUR OF PRIVATE OAXACAN FOLK ART COLLECTION

On April 30th, 2008, FOFA’s fundraising campaign for its exhibition catalogue began with a private viewing of the folk art collection of Arden Rothstein, FOFA’s President and co-author (with her daughter Anya) of Mexican Folk Art from Oaxacan Artist Families. In the course of Arden’s life-long affiliation with Oaxaca and immersion in the folk art scene, she has had the opportunity to buy unique pieces. She offered donors who attended this event an informal and anecdotal “tour” of these works.

They also enjoyed outstanding mezcal (provided by Scorpion Mezcal, S.A. & Caballeros Inc.) and delicious botanas (catered by Paladar Restaurant). Carlomagno Pedro Martínez — internationally-acclaimed ceramicist, Director of Museo Estatal de Arte Popular Oaxaca and collaborator in the juried competition for young artists — donated a collection of his extraordinary ceramic works for sale at the event, proceeds to be donated to the catalogue project.
