Alberto, awarded honorable mention in FOFA’s 2008 young artists’ competition, experiments with colors and forms. This is a challenge that he set for himself when he began weaving at 13. He feels that one must work with love to make good carpets, no matter how long it takes. The piece he submitted to the contest, “Ricaaza-lù” in Zapotec and “I Love You” in English, represents a rose that reflects his appreciation for nature. He believes that it is better to see a rose on a carpet or painting than to cut a live one. For Alberto, appreciation of his work and his culture is critical. He hopes to be remembered as an innovative, talented, and patient artist.
