HILARIO CHÁVEZ SOSA (Teotitlán del Valle)

Hilario won honorable mention in textiles in FOFA’s 2008 young artists’ competition for his tapestry “Cosmic Tree.” He explained, “We are part of an entire cycle of life that is cosmic, because it comes from the universe.” The four flowers on the tree symbolize this cycle: to be born, to grow, to reproduce and to die. Although the idea for this work emerged four years ago, the process of executing it took one month, not counting the time necessary to prepare the yarn. Weaving has become a fundamental part of his life.
