Gaspar, who won honorable mention in woodcarving in FOFA’s 2008 young artists’ competition with his piece “Aztec Warrior with Jaguar,” is best described as creative, patient and happy with what he does. Through this piece he transmits the respect and love he feels for the Aztec culture. He adds that Mexican culture is as alive as ever. Aztecs regarded the jaguar with adoration, considering it sacred, even though today this animal is in danger of extinction. María Teresa Calvo Fabián, sister of the artisan, painted his beautiful carving.
