International Panel of Jurors to Select
Winning Oaxacan Artesanos on July 7-8
|

|
|
| A renowned panel of folk art
experts -- from Oaxaca, Mexico City, London and New York --
jointly assembled by FOFA and the director of MEAPO will select
the winning pieces and those receiving honorable mention in
early July 2008. The exhibit opens with a fiesta on October
25th, in time for the crowds that travel to Oaxaca for Day of
the Dead. It will also include works of senior Oaxacan folk
art masters. A portion of this exhibition, along with some of
the artesanos, will come to New York in the spring of 2009.
A catalogue will accompany these events featuring artesanos
who win and those who receive honorable mention in photographs
of them and their works, brief bios and contact information. |

| In addition to having their works displayed
in two exhibitions and being featured in a catalog, five winners
will also be enrolled in a special course of study at the Taller
Rufino Tamayo in the city of Oaxaca. The Taller's director and
Carlomagno, an alumnus of the Taller, are designing a special
three-month-long course of study. Students will not only take
courses in their area of production, but also other types of
artistic media, including engraving, painting, ceramics and
wood carving. Exposure to these other art forms will help young
artisans to refine and enhance the scope of their techniques.
In addition, materials and transportation fees will be provided. |
