FOFA is
a group of artists, writers, scholars, travelers and collectors
who are concerned about the survival of the many remarkable
folk artist families of Oaxaca, Mexico. Due to recent political
unrest, the tourist economy is constricted, and the artistic
traditions of the indigenous pueblos surrounding Oaxaca, a UNESCO-designated
"World Heritage Site," are at stake. Young artisans are being
forced to leave the region and their artistic heritage in search
of more stable income.
Our current goal is to raise $15,000 to fund a juried exhibition
for young artists in collaboration with Oaxaca's regional folk
art museum. Future projects include: US exhibition tours, inter-cultural
exchange with Oaxacan masters, and internet training for artists.
Join us for delectable cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and music.
There will be a silent auction of folk art and other treasures.
Bring your checkbook! We are tax-deductible.
We hope to see you there. If you are unable to come, please
consider sending a donation to help us carry out our work.
